The Biggest Hair Color Trends for 2016

Miranda Lambert

The country singer debuted pink dip-dyed tips at the 2015 CMAs right after news broke that ex-husband Blake Shelton is dating Gwen Stefani. The light pink pairs well with the blonde, giving it a fun jolt of color that still compliments her skin tone.

Gwen Stefani

Shortly after announcing her divorce from husband Gavin Rossdale, the Used to Love You singer stepped out with her platinum blonde strands dipped in purple and black. It's a bold move, but one that certainly pays off.

Gigi Hadid

Model Gigi Hadid dipped a strand (see what we did there?) into the rainbow hair color look with a gentle touch of baby blue right on the ends.

Allison Williams

Coined by Jack Howard of Neville Hair & Beauty Salon, the term "babylights" refers to a technique of applying very fine strands of color throughout the hair with meche or plastic wrap—it helps the hair look multi-dimensional, and the highlights boost your color in a more natural way.

Eva Longoria

"I think it's a silly name, but I love the effect," says Backe of the babylights trend, and we have to agree. Think natural highlights with a smoother and more gradual change than ombré.

Rosamund Pike

"Babylights are a great way to introduce highlights and dimension into the hair," says Theresa Adams, master stylist at Dop Dop Salon in New York City. "They're easy to maintain with little upkeep and a natural grow-out." While it works on any shade, blondes really benefit from a big pop proving that sometimes less really is more.

Katy Perry

Rainbow hair is still all the rage, and Katy Perry rocks the look like no one else. Out of all her color choices, this lilac hue is our favorite—especially when she smartly pairs it with a shimmery, smoky eye and sophisticated nude lips.

Julianne Hough

The Dancing with the Stars pro writes on her blog, "It was time to shake things up. So I went… PINK!!!! The world can always be more colorful!" This hue is one of the more subtle hair colors to try, but if you're still nervous, use a wash out hair dye like Garnier Color Styler Intense Wash-Out in Pink Pop to give it a test drive before committing to a longer-lasting dye.

Kate Middleton

Kate stays true to her classic bouncy blowout, but adds a little edge to her classic brown hair to brighten up her look.

Keri Russell

Keri Russell's fresh new hue is the definition of bronde with some blonde in the front and brown rocking the back. Perfect for indecisive ladies who want a change but aren't quite ready to give up being a blonde.

Raven-Symoné

Consider this new hair trend the lighter, trendier cousin of the beloved rainbow hair that took over everyone's Instagram. It's a blend of pearl and light pinks, blues, purples, or greens. Raven-Symoné's style has subtle hints of blue, purple and green, which she compliments perfectly with purple eyeshadow.

Kesha

It's no surprise that this star hopped on this trend, as she's not one to shy away from bold hairstyles. Her blend of blue, green and pink—with some very subtle hints of purple—gives an LBD a much-needed pop of color.

Kate Hudson

Kim Kardashian nearly broke the Internet again when she debuted her bright hair at Paris Fashion Week in 2015, but she wasn't the first celeb to sport the get-noticed shade—and she definitely won't be the last. Kate brightened up her famously blonde hair to an icy level, making it even more strikingly beautiful.

Jennifer Lawrence

The Hunger Games actress lightened up her blonde-highlighted hair with a much brighter, bolder shade. It pairs perfectly with her fair skin tone, but if yours is more tan, don't fret—it's a super versatile hue, so don't be afraid to give it a try if you dig the look.

Nicole Richie

If you're a celebrity—or Marge Simpson—you can get away with blue hair. For the rest of us, Revlon ColorSilk Luminista in Violet Black ($4.49) creates a subtler, more work-appropriate effect.

Demi Lovato

Demi's super-subtle blue tints on her ends are the perfect finish to an edgier look.

Stacy London

While some women are all about playing with the color of their hair these days, others are embracing their more natural shade—and that includes gray. Celebrity stylist Stacy London refuses to color her signature gray streaks, making her hair more of a wow-worthy beauty statement than ever before.

Diane Keaton

When she's not cracking us up playing beer pong with Jimmy Fallon, Diane's effortlessly-chic hairstyle is always a winner. Consider her one of the major celebs to tell the world gray is more than okay—it's phenomenal.

Jessica Alba

This hand-painted highlighting technique has been around for a while (Jessica is proof of that—she's nailed the "sun-kissed glow look" for years), but it's making a resurgence in requests at the salon. It's not hard to see why, as it gives the hair softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. Translation: you can go longer between salon visits.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy proves how pretty longer hair looks with this color treatment, gently blending her dark roots into the light blonde color you eventually see at the ends. There's no foil or meche used to create the style, and it's way more personalized as a good stylist will be able to place the color in just the right places to complement your skin tone.

The Biggest Hair Color Trends for 2016
